Part of CMFSC's long-term vision is for players to continue to find passion and growth long after they've finished their youth careers with CMFSC. In 2017,
CMFSC sent 19 players off to post-secondary soccer careers, while this year, a massive 2018 graduating class of 30 Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer players,
represented the club in the 2018 Fall post-secondary season across BC, throughout Canada, and into the United States. Of those players and players
having graduated in 2016 and 2015, we take a moment to recognize some amazing achievements by CMFSC alumni.
Lauren Da Luz - CMFSC Graduating Class of 2016
University of Ottawa
Heading into her third year with the U of Ottawa Gee-Gees, Lauren Da Luz played in an integral part in the team's finishing of first in the Ontario East Division, winning the Ontario Championship and then winning their first National Championship since 1996, in a nail-biting final against the Trinity Western Spartans. The victory caps off a remarkable season for the University of Ottawa, who lost one game all year. For Lauren's hard work and defensive prowess, she was selected as an Ontario East 1st Team All-Star. Aside from an exciting and BUSY soccer schedule, Lauren also studies engineering.
Janko Vong - CMFSC Graduating Class of 2016
University of Alberta
Defender Janko Vong was highlighted this October as a member of the Canada West first Men's All-Star team. This season, Vong contributed to the Bears 12-0-2 impressive record, which marked just the fourth undefeated season in program history. In his freshman year, Vong started in 12 matches, and was part of a backline that maintained clean sheets in half of their matches. Janko studies Biological Science at the UAlberta.
As a CMFSC player, Vong captained the U15 Boys BCSPL that won the 2013 BC Provincial Championship and Northwest Champions Cup. Continuing that success the following year, Vong captained Coquitlam’s U16 side that won the 2014 BC Soccer Premier Cup and won the 2014 Sport Chek national club title. He was also a member of the BC U16 Provincial team.
Adrianna Babinski & Claire Ye - CMFSC Graduating Class of 2017
Capilano University
As rookies in their 2017 season, Adrianna Babinski and Claire Ye were Capilano Blues team highlights! Babinski was chosen as a Conference All-Star and was second highest goal scored (7 in 11 games). As well as being named to the Conference All-Star team, Ye earned the rookie of the year award. As both a defender and midfielder, Ye's versatility made her a constant threat on the field. With a solid team and the addition of strong rookies, the Blues captured the PACWEST Silver Medal in 2017. This year, the team continued to grow and again achieved the PACWEST Silver Medal.
Melanie Osborne - CMFSC Graduating Class of 2018
Vancouver Island University
For the second time in three seasons, the Vancouver Island University Mariners were the PACWEST women's soccer champions, punching their ticket to the
CCAA Nationals for a 5th place overall finish. CMFSC's 2018 graduate goalie, Melanie Osborne, was able to make an impact as a rookie and be part of
the VIU's excellent 2018 run. In the PACWEST final against the Capilano Blues, Capilano had several chances throughout the match, but Osborne was consistently
up to the task. She made a big stop on CapU midfielder Brooklynn Doucette (another CMFSC alumni) off a breakaway in the first half to keep the game
scoreless, and in the second half handled every opportunity sent her way. For her efforts, Osborne was named tournament Top Goalkeeper.
As CMFSC players head off into different directions to make their mark at their various post-secondary institutions, we wish them the best of luck and hope they one day might return to play or coach with the Club they grew up with.
