FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club Awarded Prestigious League1 BC License
Coquitlam, BC — July 23, 2024 — Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club (CMFSC) is thrilled to announce that we have been officially awarded a League1 BC (L1BC) license, marking a historic moment for our club, the community and the Tri-Cities. This achievement reflects our region’s passion for sports, our vibrant community spirit, and our commitment to excellence.
The new program, to be named Evolution FC, will bring Pro-Am soccer action to Coquitlam with both men’s and women’s teams competing in 2025. This exciting development is expected to build community pride, stimulate growth, and provide countless opportunities for community engagement and player, coach and staff development.
"We are incredibly honored to be awarded this license to become part of a nation-wide, standards-based league, bridging the gap between grassroots, high performance and professional football." said Sara Maglio, Executive Director of CMFSC. “We believe that an ecosystem built by Canadians for Canadians, grounded in local communities and built on a sports entertainment business model is essential to creating a strong, enduring football culture.”
Our announcement is timely, in advance of the launch of the Northern Super League – a new women’s professional league in 2025 – and on the heels of Canada’s breakthrough success at Copa America, during which head coach Jesse Marsch expressed more emphasis on youth development. This is something that is central to our mission.
The club is committed to supporting community health, wellness and economic development; delivering excellence and professional standards; and investing in youth.
The Evolution FC teams will compete in the 2025 League1 BC season and will host home games at the renowned Town Center grounds, which will be designed to provide an unparalleled fan experience for supporters. The club has called Coquitlam’s Town Center home for many years and looks forward to adding the League1 Evolution FC teams to our proud heritage.
We extend our deepest gratitude to League1, City of Coquitlam, and the countless individuals who have supported us throughout this journey. Together, united by our love for football and our unwavering community spirit, we embark on this exciting new chapter.
