COQUITLAM METRO-FORD PAIR SIGN TO PLAY FOR MAJOR NCAA DIV. 1 SCHOLARSHIPS
The Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club annually develops young players that will move up to post-secondary competitions across Canada and the United States. 2019 is no exception, and with early signing for NCAA Division 1 competition moved up to November, two local soccer ladies have made their commitments official.
Former U15 Canadian National Team player and Vancouver Whitecap REX Elite Centre-Back, Julia Kostecki, has signed onto Rice University in Houston,
Texas. The Owls were Conference USA Champions in 2017 and ranked in the NCAA top 30. The Centennial Secondary student will join current Rice Owl
and Coquitlam Metro-Ford alum, Ziyana Samanani, alongside their defensive line. Samanani a 2018 graduate of Port Moody Secondary. Kostecki notes
“I choose Rice because of the amazing team atmosphere and great coaching support.”
Striker Tannis McKay began her career with the club in her elementary school years and now matriculates up to Radford University located in Virginia.
The fast paced goal scorer who led her club team to a 2017 BC Provincial title will join the Highlanders who are the current 2018 Big South Conference
Champions and qualified for the NCAA championship play-offs. McKay notes “I am very excited to be going to school at such a beautiful campus located
in the hills of Virginia and to play for a team that can challenge for the conference title every year.”
Club executive director Sara Maglio states; “We pride ourselves in providing a full pathway for club players and very happy that we could be part of
these player’s journeys.” Echoing the enthusiasm is Dale Mitchell, technical director-BCSPL, noting “It is exciting to see our club being represented
in regions across North America.”
The pair will play in the BCSPL during the spring months before graduation and flying to their new campuses for pre-season in August. Both players
will join a longer list of Coquitlam Metro-Ford players graduating onto collegiate soccer that will be announced in the spring 2019.
