Coach Spotlight: Meet Phebe Trotman

Get to know one of the familiar faces around CMFSC — Coach Phebe!

What’s your nickname or what do the kids call you?

Coach Phebe. Teammates, friends, and family call me Phebs. My dad used to call me PJ — my first name is actually Phebe-Joy.

What is your role at CMFSC?

Initiation Program Head Coach

How long have you been part of CMFSC?

Long time… ha! I grew up playing Coquitlam City Soccer and returned as a coach and player in my late 20s/early 30s.

What position did (or do) you play?

Forward

What’s your favourite thing about soccer?

Working together with my teammates to accomplish a common goal.

Beach or mountains?

Beach

Do you have a favourite soccer memory?

Being in the same room as Pelé. I attended a coaching conference in Philadelphia and he was there — only a few yards away.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

“Focus on being the best version of yourself on and off the field.”

Do you have a go-to vacation spot?

Barbados. It’s where my family is from, so I feel a special connection.

Who has been the biggest influence on your soccer journey?

My parents.

How do you like to unwind when you’re not on the field?

I like to make desserts and give them to people — otherwise I’ll eat them all 😋😆
