2019 Generation Adidas Select Program

Generation Adidas International provides top tier clubs in North America an exclusive soccer experience in Spain and France through partnerships with Real Madrid and Olympique Lyonnais. This invite by nomination only program offers elite training and competition, providing unique insight during the development of youth players. The selected male participants trained with experienced professional Real Madrid Foundation coaches and female participants with Olympique Lyonnais Academy, at state of the art training facilities, to give players an in-depth look at the daily life of an Academy Player. We are pleased to announce that two players from Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club were invited to this incredible experience this past August, 2019. Anthony White of the U16 Boys BCSPL flew to Madrid, Spain, and Sophia Ferreira of the U16 Girls BCSPL (CMFSC 2018 Female Player of the Year), flew to Lyon, France in August, for a full nine days of sessions, competitions, touring various stadiums, and received amazing kits from Soccer Express. Anthony White:

I am now back from Madrid and had an amazing experience of a lifetime!  As requested, please find attached some pictures I’d like to share with you and some highlights from the experience.

Highlights included: 

• Training 1-2 times per day at the Real Madrid training grounds, including a tour of the facility
• Tour of Santiago Bernabeu stadium
• Training at Spains national team training centre
• Played games against top Spanish clubs
• Toured the city of Madrid 

During the tour of Real Madrid training grounds and facility, our team got a glimpse of Raul and Roberto Carlos!

I met and made lasting friendships with players from across Canada and the USA.  As well Adidas Canada and Soccer Express provided the Canadian players with soccer cleats, uniforms, and a bunch of cool swag that I get to keep!  I was also part of Adidas futures, this is where our team met with Adidas in small groups and they shared upcoming product to get our opinion.  It was cool to see the new cleats that will be available in the next two years! 

I want to thank you again for all your support and was proud to represent Coquitlam Metro-Ford in Spain!  It was an experience with memories that I will never forget!

Sophia Ferreira:

I am back from Lyon and I had an amazing time. This trip was one I will never forget; I would say a trip of a life time. There were many highlights in this trip that I would like to share with you.

Highlights included:

   - Training once a day with the U19 Olympique Lyonaisse team

   - Being trained by Sonia Bompastor

   - Meeting the Olympique Lyonais pro players such as Ada Hegerberg, Kadeisha Buchanan and Nikita Paris

   - Tour of the Groupama Stadium and Stadium Museum 

   - Played games against the US generation select and the U19 Olympique Lyonais team

   - Tour of Lyon city centre

 We also had one of our players connect with Kadeisha Buchanan which resulted in her visiting us at our hotel. She came and spoke with us for an hour, she signed our jerseys and took pictures with us.

During this trip I made friendships with people all around Canada, USA and with players on the U19 Lyon team. I would like to thank Adidas Canada and Soccer X for all the apparel we were given. They provided us with tracksuits, 3 sets of shirts, shorts and socks, runners, slides, cleats and a water bottle. I was also part of Adidas futures, this is where adidas split us in small groups and asked our opinions about the company and what we would like to see in the future. Another cool thing we did was watch the Olympique Lyonais pros train and play in a game against Marseille. After the training and game the players came to meet us. I was also very pleased to see how organized everything was. Before the trip we already knew exactly what we were doing everyday as well as when we got there, we had a team coordinator constantly with us answering our questions, showing us around and translating for us :)

I want to thank everyone again for this amazing experience, Coquitlam Metro-Ford, especially Dale for nominating me, Soccer Express and Adidas for putting everything together to create such an incredible experience for all the players.  This was a trip I will never forget.
