Whitecaps FC Sign David Norman Jr. to MLS Contract

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday, December 1st, 2017, the signing of CMFSC alumni David Norman Jr. to an MSL contract. 

Hailing from Coquitlam, David is the son of former Whitecaps FC and Canada midfielder David Norman Sr.. Norman Sr. played for the Whitecaps - when it was known then as Vancouver 86ers - from 1991 to 1996. This included a Canadian Soccer League championship title in 1991 and four seasons with the club in the old American Professional Soccer League (1993 to 1996). Norman Sr. made a total of 171 appearances for Vancouver, scoring 16 goals. Norman’s father also made 51 international appearances for the Canadian national team, including the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

David Norman Jr. kicked off his own soccer career with Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club at the age of four in the Initiation Academy Program. He would grow with the club during his youth career from house teams to gold level, Metro level, and eventually compete with CMFSC within the Super Y-League. While playing for Coquitlam, he would get his first taste of the Whitecaps at the age of nine and continue until age 12, playing in the Whitecaps FC Prospects program. 

Norman Jr, kicked off his international playing career, twice representing Western Canada at the Danone Nations Cup and captained Canada‚Äôs Danone Nations Cup team at the 2010 event in South Africa. In the summer of 2011, he'd travel again and train with the academy set-up of German Bundesliga club. Upon returning home, David joined the Whitecaps Residency program and and appeared in 15 regular season games for the Whitecaps FC Residency team over 2012-13. David would then be named to Canada's U-15 men's roster for the 2013 Copa Mexico de Naciones, where he'd notch a goal against Paraguay. 

He continued to play with the Whitecaps FC Residency teams for U-16 and U18, until leaving for University to play for Oregon State. He started 15 matches, leading the team with five assists in his freshman campaign. David Norman Jr would only spend a season with the Beavers, until returning to Vancouver in January of 2017, having been signed to the Whitecaps FC 2 to play in the United Soccer League. As a rookie, he was honoured as 2017's Player of the Year.

From his roots to his own accolades, signing to the Whitecaps FC, is definitely a product of hard work, dedication, and undeniable talent. Whitecaps FC Coach Carl Robinson had to say, "He comes to work every day, he's hungry, he wants to learn and he wants to get better. As his body grows he will get an understanding of how to use what he's good at. The hard work starts now for him. He deserves his chance and he'll come into preseason to fight for his spot."
