Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club Announces Appointment of General Manager for Evolution FC

Coquitlam, BC — Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club (CMFSC) is proud to announce the appointment of Joe Basic as the General Manager of our newly awarded League1 BC  entry - Evolution FC. According to Alex Barnetson, CMFSC President, "Joe's extensive experience in soccer administration and his long-standing relationship with our club make him the ideal candidate to lead this exciting new chapter in our history."

Joe Basic began his journey with CMFSC in 2002 as a coach and age group coordinator with Coquitlam City Soccer. His leadership qualities quickly became evident, leading to his appointment as Director of Operations and later Vice President following the merger of Coquitlam City Soccer and Metro-Ford in 2007. Over the years, Joe has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of youth soccer in the Tri-Cities and beyond.

In 2017, Joe took on the role of District Chair for Tri-Cities and was instrumental in the formation of the North Fraser District, which included the integration of two Maple Ridge soccer clubs. His leadership was further demonstrated in 2018 when, as District Chair, he successfully spearheaded the merger of four major leagues—4 District, 5 District, BC Coastal Girls, and the Metro League—into the BC Coastal Soccer League, benefiting nearly 20,000 players aged U11 to U18. This merger was a significant milestone in achieving consistent rules and oversight across the leagues.

Joe has also been actively involved with BC Soccer, serving on multiple boards and contributing his expertise to advance the game in British Columbia. His dedication has been recognized twice by BC Soccer, receiving the Award of Merit in 2019 and the President’s Award in 2022.

Reflecting on his appointment, Joe Basic stated, "I am extremely proud of the roles I have played in the development of youth soccer in the Lower Mainland. It has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding journey, made possible by the many volunteers and staff who have shared in this mission. After taking a break in 2022, I was eager to return to soccer with a focus on building something from the ground up. This opportunity with Evolution FC is exactly what I was looking for, and I am excited to contribute to the continued success of a club that has always been my home."
