Remembering William Azzi
Posted on: October 16, 2024
It is with great sadness that we share the news of William Azzi’s passing.
Known to many as ‘Mr. Azzi’, he was a pioneering force in the development of both youth and adult soccer across the lower mainland, and his contributions were instrumental in shaping the soccer community in Coquitlam. In 1984, he co-founded the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club and dedicated himself to nurturing individual players and building championship teams, helping establish what is now a thriving youth and adult soccer club.
This year, as we celebrate the club's 40th anniversary, we honoured Mr. Azzi's lasting legacy by adding “Azzi di Tradizione” to our jersey sleeves, a tribute to the profound impact he has had on our club. His influence is still felt deeply today, by countless families who knew him as a coach, teacher, mentor, and friend—though to many, he will always be simply Mr. Azzi.
All home games this weekend (October 19/20) will observe a moment of silence in honour of Mr. Azzi, as we come together to reflect on his memory and legacy.
