Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club (CMFSC)
CMF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer introduced the development program for the minis six years ago. Even at a young age, kids that are showing a significant desire and commitment to play the game of soccer and need an opportunity to learn within our club. The goal of the program is to give players that exhibit an advanced level of soccer skill and maturity the opportunity to continue to develop their talents in an environment that challenges them beyond their existing opportunities.
In addition, we would like to use this program as a coach development tool. Therefore, we welcome and encourage any coach that would be interested to work alongside our CMFSC Head Coaches and Academy Coaching Staff to be a part of this program. This Fall & Winter Development program will include the Under 8 to Under 12 age groups.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAM
The CMFSC Head of Under 8 to Under 12 Boys & Girls, along with coaches at each age group, are to work with the players to develop soccer skills that are important at this level. Although it is easy to assume that children with good soccer skills will only participate in the program, we also look at players that are showing a desire to play along with proper social skills. We are aware of the fact that kids develop quickly at a young age, so each year we will re-evaluate who should be involved with the program. The initial player identification/selection process at all age levels will be based on each coach’s recommendations coupled with further evaluation by the CMFSC Head Coaches. This evaluation will take place from involvement in past programs, evaluations at games, and evaluations at the age group jamborees.
PLAYER ASSESSMENTS
This season the Player Academy staff coaches will be testing all players in the High Performance Academy using the National Assessment criteria ( http://www.isoccer.org/StandardsProject/Home.aspx) The National Assessment, which was developed by iSoccer, is a test that measures an individual player's overall technical ability. The assessment covers 7 topic areas : Comfort, Juggling, Dribbling, First Touch & Passing, Aerial Control, Speed, Strength, and Flexibility. The testing will be conducted at the beginning of the Academy program and at the end. All players will receive their results at the conclusion of the Academy program.
