Another CMF Barça team player displays achievements for this past spring/summer.

New Barça Boy Vieira Finds Success in Brazil- click for blog

1Every year, Brazilian soccer giant Sao Paulo FC* organizes a tournament during which its 34 official soccer schools compete for the title of Brazil’s best.

Having trained with them for the last 4 summers, CMF Barça's Hugo was invited to compete for Brazilia’s U13 team and, once his commitments with CMF’s Super-Y team were done, he traveled to Brazil and joined the squad for the week-long tournament.

Hugo's team did quite well, finishing first in their group and advancing all the way to the semi-finals, where they fell on the penalty shootout (Hugo took the last PK, down 1 goal, and scored for the tie but a teammate subsequently missed in the sudden death).

2All in all, it was a great experience for the boys (as Hugo’s younger brother, Felipe, also played, on the U11 team) and it once more showed that our players can compete with the best.

* Sao Paulo FC is one of the biggest and arguably the most successful team in Brazil, holding the most national league and international titles of any Brazilian club. They are the current Serie A holders, having won the past three-in-a-row and six overall (both are records). Internationally they are sixth overall with the most international titles won by a club, tied with Juventus and Liverpool at 11.

Coquitlam Metro-Ford Barça player helps Tulis win second Dana Cup title - click for blog

Coquitlam NOW Published: Friday, August 14, 2009

Port Moody's Kyle Jones played a big role in the under-13 boys' Roman Tulis European Soccer School of Excellence' second-ever Dana Cup championship last month in Denmark.

The Coquitlam Metro-Ford minor soccer product served as an assistant captain, as the squad blanked Germany's Bremerhaven 1-0 in the final.

In the semifinal, the Burnaby-based squad defeated F.f.I of Denmark 2-1. Earlier, they had topped their pool with shutout victories over clubs from Norway and Finland in the 350-team, 30 nations tournament.

"It's easy to win a game every weekend, but when you play a game in the morning and then play and win a semifinal later, it's difficult," coach Roman Tulis Jr. said. "You can't have the best game of the tournament in every game, but we were lucky enough, we still outplayed he opposition."

Later in their trip, they competed at the 60-nation Gothia Cup and put in a solid charge. They were eliminated 2-0 by the largest youth club in Europe -- IF Brommapojkarna -- in the round of 16.

The 12-year-old Jones netted the game-winning goal in the previous game against Morocco in the round of 32.

It was the second time that a Jones boy has won the Dana Cup -- Kyle's older brother Adam was part of the Tulis team that won the Denmark tourney two years ago.

An east coast/west coast soccer feud ended with eastern Canada prevailing on the field of battle.

The Canada East team took the 2-1 victory from the western squad on a penalty kicks during the national finals on the MBO Field in Toronto.

The 12 winning players, plus two West players, will now represent Canada in an international soccer tournament being held Oct. 9-11 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Canada West took an early lead when Coquitlam Metro-Ford Barça's Marcello Polisi scored from the penalty spot. Canada East scored late and the game had to be settled on PK's.

The Danone Nations Cup 2009 features athletes aged 11-12 from 40 countries competing for soccer supremacy.

A new tradition has been adopted this year to promote sportsmanship and camaraderie. Two players from the Canada West team who are the recipients of the most valuable player and the best sportsmanship awards will be joining the newly formed Canadian team.

Polisi was picked as MVP for Canada West and is now off to Brazil in October.

Polisi and David Norman Jr., Coquitlam Metro-Ford products, were two of 12 representative from the West.

Well done, Marcello!

CMF Barça's Polisi and Sparta's North Go European
Over the summer, Coquitlam Metro-Ford players Marcello Polisi and Michael North were selected to travel with the Vancouver Whitecaps U12 and U13 Prospect's to Holland and Germany and came away from the trip with a worldly experience playing against some of the best young players from Holland, Germany and Denmark.

Polisi and his Whitecap team-mates played some exhibition games versus PSV Eindhoven U-12 (0-0) and FC Utrecht U-12 (3-3) in which Polisi score the 3rd and tieing goal -- as well as German outfit Bayer Leverkusen. They then moved on to finished fourth at Yerseke Mosselen Tournament in Holland .
The Yerseke Mosselen Tournament gave Marcello the opportunity to play against teams like FC Den Bosch (1-0 win), Roda JC Kerkrade (0-0), and Zeeland U-13 provincial team (0-0) in their opening group games.
As a result, Polisi and his team-mates took second place in their group and moved on to join Ajax U-12/U-13 B combination, and the U-13 sides of Fortuna Sittard, Zeeland province, UNION, and Sparta Rotterdam in the next stage.
The Whitecaps went on to beat UNION 1-0 and tied Fortuna Sittard 0-0 to finish second in the stage and moved on to the 3rd place game versus Zeeland province where they dropped a 2-0 decision to finish fourth.

Fortuna Sittard, meanwhile, took the title in a penalty shootout versus Ajax U-12/U-13 B combination.

Along the way, Marcello earned a one day call up to the Vancouver Whitecaps U13 Prospects team to lend a hand in the Good Old Tournament against RBC of Holland and eventual tournament winners, Danish side Brondby. The Caps were unlucky to miss out on the final due to a four way tie in the group stage despite Marcello's clubmates having beaten German powerhouse Werder Bremen the previous day. The call up was a reunion of sorts as Marcello got to play alongside current clubmate (Coquitlam Metro Ford and Vancouver Whitecaps) and former Barca team mate Michael North, who was selected to travel with the Vancouver Whitecaps U13 Prospects.

It was a great experience for Marcello and Michael and something that they will call upon when they tackle the new and difficult season ahead!

Well done Chelly and Michael!

Two CMFSC Alumni at U20 Women's World Cup in Chile
Two products of CMFSC are competing at the U20 Women's World Cup in Chile - but for different nations. Paige Adams (CMFSC Wild, U14-18), who now plays for Wisconsin University of the NCAA, is representing Canada, and Sydney Leroux (CMFSC Wild, U14-16), who is a freshman at UCLA, is playing for the US team. The two were team mates on the Coquitlam Wild from U14 through to U16, forming one of the most potent striker pairings in youth soccer, and helping their team to the U14 National Championship, the U16 National Bronze Medal, and three Provincial Cups in their time together. Paige continued with the Wild, winning two more Provincial Cups, while Sydney moved to the US winning State Championships in Washington and then New Mexico.
As always, CMFSC is very proud of the accomplishments and success of our past and present players. These two young women are worthy additions to the long line of CMFSC alumni who have reached the pinnacle of our game and performed on the international stage.

In League Cup play, the City Slickers won 4 to 1 over the Burnaby Canadians Tigers at the South Surrey Athletic Park earning a berth to the Provincial B Cup (picture attached).
With a 4-0 record, 18 goals for and 3 against, the City Slickers took Gold at the Provincial B Cup (Leeta Solkolski) in a 2-0 match versus GE Lightning.
This was the third consecutive year for the City Slickers entering this event and the third consecutive year earning medals. This event was hosted in Richmond at Hugh Boyd Park. BC Soccer was so pleased with the City Slickers' results and sportsmanship, they asked if the City Slickers would host the 2008 / 2009 Provincial B Cup.

Gold and Silver Medal winners at the BC Summer Games

Three players from the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club recently participated in the BC Summer Games, representing the Fraser Valley and the Vancouver - Squamish district and came away with both the gold and silver medals.

After an extensive tryout that looked at hundreds of top players from an area stretching from Port Moody to Hope, two and a half months of training and three days of competition in 30 degree heat in Kelowna, the Fraser Valley boys soccer team came out as Champions of the 2008 B.C. Summer Games. Going into the games, Fraser Valley were the reigning champions having won gold at the 2006 games in Kamloops. Having the unenviable position of being the 'team to beat', Fraser Valley had to keep grounded and focused while other squads were eyeing the big target on their backs. Nothing new for our Coquitlam Metro-Ford boys, Michael North (Sparta) and Kyle Jones (Barca), who deal with this burden week in/week out playing for such a prestigious club as CMFSC.

Anthony De Luca (Barca) was selected from a huge Vancouver- Squamish district and played extremely well earning the place as the starting striker for the district. Again, the experiences provided by the club allowed Anthony to overcome the obstacle to showcase his talent.

As both the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Squamish teams were the crème de la crème of the tournament when it came to talent, all three boys played outstanding soccer and proved without a shadow of a doubt that they are some of the best players in their age group in the province and ones to keep an eye on in the future.

With North's speed, power and determination combined with Jones' tenacity, distribution and ferocity, there was little chance that the Fraser Valley team was going to come away from the tournament with nothing less than gold. Both boys had to adjust to the 8-aside game from the 11-aside they normally play, combined with the superb coaching they get on a regular basis from the club and academies they attend, they were able to take the challenge and use their experiences and skills to meet this outstanding goal.

Anthony De Luca proved to be invaluable for his Vancouver/Squamish team score some big goals down the stretch run to the finals while playing the entire tournament with a very sore ankle. Like a warrior, De Luca never asked to come off and toughed it out, even taking a penalty for his team in the shootout final.

Well done to Kyle Jones (Barca), Anthony De Luca (Barca), Michael North (Sparta) and coach Dan Jones (Barca) for doing us proud!

Results:

Group A:
Fraser Valley 4-0 Vancouver Island – Central Coast 'A'
Thompson Okanagan 0-7 Fraser Valley
Fraser Valley 7-0 North West

COQUITLAM CITY SLICKERS, MWSL DIVISION 1
I would like to complete our 2006/2007 season by sending you a recap.
team photo
Due to injuries and vacations, the City Slickers had a very difficult start to their season. From September to the end of October 2006, the team played each game with 8-10 players (at times even 7!), but held their defeats to low goals against averages. The tables turned after the return of the team's college players in November. The City Slickers started their climb back from second-to-last place to finish 5th overall in league play.

CMFSC TEAMS IN PROVINCIAL CUP CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to all our teams that competed in the Provincial Championships last weekend. We are very proud of your accomplishments, commitment to this soccer club and for your Provincial showing:
U18 Girls Metro Wild - 1st place (see more details below)
Five time Provincial Champions (U14-U18) and again have secured a berth to the National Championships in October. Many of the players on this current team won Nationals at U14, placed third at U16 and have a good chance to again secure a first place finish in our Country. The Wild have been the most successful team that our club has produced and we are extemely proud of them once again.
U16 Girls Metro Attack - 2nd place
Lost a great final game in penalty kicks, but had a successful year in the highly competitive Girls Metro Soccer League securing a second place league title. The attack finished third in Provincials last year as well.
U15 Girls Metro Silence - 2nd place
Lost in the final game but had a great run through the weekend. A very skilled team that has improved their roster for next season and we hope to see them back at Provincials again next season.
U15 Boys Select Dynamo - 1st place and a well deserved 1st place finish. Dynamo dominated the Provincial Championships throughout the weekend, scoring 16 goals for with 1 goal against. Carlo Basso scored 9 of the 16 Dynamo goals. This is a team worth watching.
U18 Boys Select United - 4th place.

Wild Win Fifth Straight Provincial Title! Wild Team photo
Local girls save best for last, winning 7-0 in Cup final!
Monday, July 9, 2007 - On Sunday afternoon in Abbotsford, the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Wild put an exclamation mark on the end of their five year run, winning their fifth consecutive Provincial Cup. And they won it in style, with a dominant performance for the ages, a 7-0 win over a very good, hard-working Kelowna United side.
For the Final, the Wild appeared to draw motivation from several sources - their goal to win the Provincial Cup again being the first, but they also were unhappy with their play from the previous day, which saw them have to fight back to earn a 2-2 draw against the same Kelowna team. On Saturday, with a spot in the Sunday final already locked up by virtue of their two earlier round-robin win, the Wild needed a injury time strike from Michelle Pulice to earn the draw.
On Sunday, it was a completely different story. The Wild opened the scoring when Lauren Lachlan headed home a Melissa Mobilio corner kick. Lachlan then added to the lead with a breakaway from forty yards that she finished easily. The halftime break came with the Wild up 2-0 - a comfortable lead, but by no means safe, especially with Kelowna likely to come out gunning in the second half.
But the Wild didn't allow Kelowna any time to respond, as the Wild dictated play from the opening whistle of the half. Then in the third minute, they exploited the Kelowna flat-four backline, when keeper Loren Lidin's punt travelled over the Kelowna defenders. U20 international Paige Adams ran onto the ball unmarked, and made no mistake with some sublime finish to the farside of the Kelowna keeper. Three minutes later, the Wild repeated the same play, this time Lauren White was the recipient of Lidin's booming punt and, like Adams, she made no mistake beating the keeper.
The Wild continued their onslaught through to the final whistle. Lauren Lachlan scored her third goal - the first ever hat trick for the hard-as-nails centre midfielder, while defender Alex Muzzin and co-captain Melissa Mobilio scored singles to wrap up the offense.
In the other games, the Wild began with two wins before the draw with Kelowna to close out the round robin portion of the competition. They opened the tourney with a solid 4-1 win over Provincial Cup first-timers SBAA Elite. Melissa Mobilio had a pair of goals to pace the Wild. Lauren White added a single. Paige Adams scored on a penalty, and also had three assists to go along with it.
In the second game, the Wild knocked off their long-time rivals Burnaby Girls Dynamite by a score of 3-1. The match was the usual spirited and physical affair that has come to be expected from these two sides. Paige Adams led the Wild to a two goal lead with her pair of goals, before Burnaby cut the lead in half. Michelle Pulice clinched the win with the Wild's third goal, but no before keeper Loren Lidin was called upon to make a wonderful diving save to preserve the slim one goal lead.
Head coach Danny Pietramala, who has been at the helm for the past four of the Wild's five BC titles, was obviously ecstatic with the win, but was particularly pleased that the team might have played their best game ever in the process: "To finish their time as a team with a performance like that is incredible. Every year our goal is to make the Provincials, then we focus on winning. This team has never lost at Provincial Cup (their five year record now stands at 16 wins and 2 draws), and that will to win was evident today. But since I started coaching this team, we have worked towards playing the game just like we did today. We played possession soccer, and we played it with pace. Loren was steady and calming in net for us, and our defenders were rock solid and composed, our midfielders won almost every battle, and our attackers played with speed and purpose. That was as close to perfect as I've ever seen, and I've been doing this for over twenty years."
Pietramala also added that the significance of winning five straight Provincial titles is not lost on him or his players and staff: "I have been around this game a long time, and I can't remember any girls team winning five straight Provincial Championships. I don't know if BC Soccer keeps such records, but at the very least this team is in very small company now. This is something these girls will keep with them for the rest of their lives, regardless of how their soccer careers unfold in the future. And it's particularly special for the ten of them who have been part of all five."

With the win, however, the Wild era doesn't quite come to an end just yet. The Wild will now represent BC for the third time, when they travel to Fredericton, New Brunswick in October for the U18 Sony Cup National Championships. The Wild won Gold at U14 in Halifax, NS (as the Coquitlam Inferno), and then won Bronze at the U16 tournamnt in St.John's, NF.

BC Summer Games - Gold Medal performance
Congratulation to the Players and Coach that represented Fraser Valley in the BC Summer Games on there Gold Medal performance.
The team was put together quickly and only had a few practices before heading to Kamloops playing 8v8 rather than the more familiar 11v11 game. The team was coached by CCS/MF u13 Ajax Coach Danny Jones & Scott Hyams from Guilford SC. The boys had to learn a totally new system and formation while pulling together after a year of battling against each other. The Surrey United and MF Ajax boys have a heated rivalry, most recently dating back to their last encounter in Kamloops at the Provincial Cup in early July were the Ajax boys had to settle for a bitter bronze after an unfortunate loss in a group game to Kelowna. Both groups of boys put their on-field rivalry aside to battle for the cause and the entire team became very close, creating a golden memory that will last a long time.
It was especially sweet for the Ajax boys who endured a summer of silvers as they traveled up and down the coast participating in very big Pacific Northwest tournaments across the border, encountering the top teams in Washington and Oregon. Ajax finished with the silver at the Baker Blast, Diadora Cup (in Washington State) and Beaverton Cup (in Oregon) – the latter was a sudden death penalty shootout loss after playing the game in 44 degree weather with 10 men for 90% of the game!
5 of the 12 players on the Fraser Valley team were CCS/Metro-Ford Ajax players. The Ajax boys were:
Trevor Garofano, Adam Jones, Connor Kachor, Jordan Pettie, Daniel Stanese.
Results:
Group Games-
Fraser Valley 5-0 Vancouver Island – Central Coast
Vancouver Squamish 0-4 Fraser Valley
Fraser Valley 4-1 Cariboo North East
Semi Finals
Thompson Okanagan 3-3 Fraser Valley (FV wins 3-0 on PK’s – Jones, Stanese and Garofano score on the first three shots, Kachor stops all three shots by Thompson Okanagan).
Finals
Fraser Valley 2-0 Fraser River Delta (Stanese and Jones score both goals)

On another note, Anthony Bordignon got back from the Schwan US Cup in Minnesota with the Vancouver Whitecaps where Anthony helped them finish a very respectful 3rd place. Brando Ciccone represented CCS with a great performance in England with the u13 BC Team. And Daniel Stanese and Trevor Garofano head to France at the end of August representing Canada at the U12 Danone Nations Cup.
Congrats again on all there achievement and up coming events.

Coquitlam City Revenge win Hawaii Cup Invitational Soccer Tournament!
Coquitlam City’s Revenge in the U16 girls division defeated two-time defending champions Maui Rip Girls 3-2 last Saturday to win the 20th Annual Hawaii Cup Invitational Soccer Tournament held in Kahului, Hawaii. It was the first win by any Canadian team in history of the tournament.
To make to the finals, on Wednesday the CCS Revenge beat the Roseville Crew from Central California 3-0, and the Na Kololie Soccer club of Hawaii 2-1. On Thursday they beat the Lahaina Soccer Club of Maui 7-0. That left Friday’s game last preliminary game between Coquitlam and the Maui Rip Girls to determine first place in the pool. With both teams knowing they had made the finals the Rip Girls defeated Coquitlam 2-0.
Veronica Gregoris and Theresa Rodrigues lead the scoring in the preliminary rounds with three goals each, followed by individual goals by Chandell Sanford, Lauren Fitzpatrick, Paige Whittemore, Nicole Jago, Carla Hingston and Dominique Goutsis. Chantal Gauthier recorded the two shutouts with the help of Genevieve Lindsay and Andrea Palmer on defense.
Learning from the experience of the game against the Rip Girls and with the strong Hawaiian trade winds affecting the ability to kick the soccer ball any great distance, coach Jim Fitzpatrick went to a 4-5-1 formation for the final game inserting additional midfielders Lisa Petrie and Nina Bennett into the rotation. He also now had the luxury of having available for selection both Tori White and Jessica Franske who was both injured during the BC Provincial Lacrosse finals the previous weekend.
In Saturday’s final the Coquitlam lived up to their name by getting revenge on the Maui. In the first half they scored two breakaway goals against the wind, one by Tanya Gavieres and the other by Veronica Gregoris. At half time the score was 2-1. Mid way though second half Nycco Cerenzie scored what proved to be the winning goal with a shot off the right post. The Rip girls scored in the final seconds of the game to make the final score 3-2.
The star of the game for Coquitlam was Debra Rheumer, a defender who had the responsibility of stopping the Rip Girls forward who had scored both goals against Coquitlam in the previous game. She did an outstanding job.
Coach Jim Fitzpatrick, stated “to beat the Maui Rip Girls I needed all eighteen player to play their best soccer and they did. It was probably one of the roughest and most physical demanding games I have every coached, but it was also one of the most entertaining. The girls deserved to win and bring the Cup to Canada.”

U12 Girls Gold Strykers: The CCS Strykers defeated the Nanaimo Westmark Warriors 4-0 to capture the bronze medal in U12 Girls A cup.
In their 71st game of the 2005-2006 season, the CCS Strykers U12 Gold Girls played their final contest like it was their first, and captured the Bronze medal with a 4-0 victory over the Nanaimo Westmark Warriors Upper Island Champions at the 2006 A Cup Provincials Finals in Kamloops on the Canada Day weekend. The Strykers finished the Provincials with a 2-1-1 record, to complete their season with a record of 52-12-7.
The Strykers narrowly missed the gold medal finals, when their round robin 1-1 tie with the eventual Gold Medalist team (Kelowna United) was decided by a FIFA secondary tie-breaker rule re cumulative goal differentials.....the Kelowna United defeated the SFC Triple Threat 2-0 for the Gold medal.Coaching staff (Gayle Statton; Chris Sheppard & Sara Maglio) were very proud of the Strykers' efforts, and felt the 14 player roster (2 of whom are one year younger) "left nothing on the field" as the Strykers' 1-0 halftime lead evaporated in a 1-1 tie in the searing 99 F heat vs the acclimatized Kelowna team.

U17 Girls Metro Wild: Coquitlam City Wild Win Fourth Straight BC Championship!
Tuesday, July 4, 2006 - The weather wasn't the only thing that was scorching hot over the long weekend in Kamloops. The Coquitlam City Wild girls soccer team was on fire from the get go, taking four wins from four games to capture the BC Soccer Association's Under-17 Provincial A Cup. The championship is the Wild's fourth Cup in four years, an astonishing feat given the calibre of players and teams this province produces in any given year. And with temperatures hovering in the high thirties all weekend long, this addition of the Provincial Cup was truly a battle of attrition.
The Wild opened the tournament on Thursday night is resounding fashion, scoring in the opening minute and then romping to an 8-0 win. Lauren White and Stephanie Yaretz each scored a pair to pace the Wild. Singles were scored by Sam Beckett, Paige Adams, Lauren Lachlan and Stephanie Pagliaro.
In the second match, the Wild faced North Shore United, who were the top seed by virtue of their Coastal Cup win over the Wild earlier in the spring. Again, Coquitlam City set the pace for the game, winning 2-1, a score which was much closer than the play itself. Lauren White and Paige Adams scored the goals.
In the third match, the Wild had their spot in the gold medal game virtually locked up. Despite a slow first half, the Wild dominated the final 45 minutes, walking away with a 4-1 win over their long-time rivals, Burnaby Girls Dynamite. The Wild got goals from Melissa Mobilio, Michelle Pulice, Sam Beckett and Stephanie Pagliaro.
The Gold Medal match was a rematch of the Coastal Cup final, with the Wild squared off against North Shore. The Wild clearly saved their best performance for last, using their skill and hustle to control the play from the opening whistle. Goals by Paige Adams and Lauren White paced the Wild to a 2-0 halftime lead. They would not relinquish that lead nor let North Shore back in the game, as the Wild dominated the second half to close out the match and take the Cup.
Head coach Danny Pietramala was extremely pleased with his team, "I think we got better as the tournament went on, and in the final we showed our stuff. This team can really play the game the way it's meant to be played. Quick. Lots of possession. And they showed it on Sunday. I think they also showed their experience. This is their fourth time through this as a group. They know what it takes to win the big games. The sacrifice. The effort. And they go out there and do it."
In the past four years, the Wild have racked up an impressive collection of silverware, establishing themselves as one of the top girls teams in BC. In that time, the Wild have won the U14 National Championship, U16 National Bronze Medal, U14-17 Provincial Championships, U14 & u16 Coastal Cups, and the U15-U17 GMSL League Championships.
As a team, the Wild have just one year left in youth soccer. Pietramala is looking forward to the challenge of trying to build on their record. He's confident his team can get even better. "Our players have been playing high level soccer all spring and summer, whether with the Xtreme, the Whitecaps or the BC program. They're going to come back in the fall more mature and better players. That bodes well for our group as a whole. I really feel this is the best group of players I have ever coached, in almost 20 years of coaching soccer."
The 2006 U17 Provincial Champion Coquitlam City Wild:
Paige Adams, Sam Beckett, Julie David, Jessica Fleming, Lauren Lachlan, Loren Lidin, Jenny Lyster, Julie McDowell, Gill McPherson, Melissa Mobilio, Alex Muzzin, Stephanie Pagliaro, Michelle Pulice, Diane Rizzardo, Laura Shaw, Erin Snelling, Lauren White, Stephanie Yaretz; Managers: Chris & Stu Fleming; Assistant Coaches: Marc Rizzardo & Tom Lachlan; Head Coach: Danny Pietramala.

Canada's U20 womens team won their first game at the CONCACAF Under-20 World Cup Qualifying tournament, defeating Trinidad & Tobago 7-1. Paige Adams of the CCS Wild U17 girls team - who at 15 is the youngest player on the team - started for Canada and played the full 90 minutes at the central midfield position. Paige was involved throughout the match, setting up two goals and narrowly missing one of her own on a long-range effort. This was Paige's first official 'cap' with the U20 National Team. Canada's next game is against Panama on Friday. Their final round-robin game is Sunday versus hosts Mexico, who beat Panama today by a score of 10-0.

COQUITLAM CITY WILD WIN U16 SOCCER NATIONAL BRONZE MEDAL! (2005)
Coquitlam City girls team win second medal at Club Nationals.

see Photo page in Photo Gallery

Tuesday, October 11, 2005 (St.John's, NL) - They went to St.John's, Newfoundland with one goal in mind. And while the Coquitlam City Wild fell short of that goal, the local girls team did earn their second medal in as many Club National Championships, a significant accomplishment regardless of medal colour.

The competition began as expected for the Wild, who drew the Yukon and New Brunswick in the qualifying round, as the Coquitlam girls romped to a pair of lopsided wins (7-0 and 8-0 respectively). Those two wins landed them in a semi-final showdown with the highly ranked London Forest United of Ontario. This was a rematch of the 2003 Under-14 National Final, won by the Wild. While the sun was shining for the first time all week, the temperature had dropped and the wind was howling with gusts in excess of 40 km per hour. The elements certainly had an impact in the game, as the Wild took full advantage of having the wind at their backs running out to a 3-0 halftime lead. However, Ontario came out in the second like a team possessed, putting the Wild under relentless pressure. An early goal off a free kick further sparked the Ontario girls, who not only came back, but with only 15 minutes to play in the game had remarkably taken the lead, 4-3. While the Wild refused to quit, however having to beat not only the bunker style defence of the Ontario side, but also the wind in their faces, proved to be insurmountable. In the end, it was a devastating collapse, and half that will surely go down as the low point of this team's highly successful history thus far.

Less than 24 hours later, with the disappointment of losing the semi-final still fresh in their conscience, the Wild had to rebound and face Alberta in the Bronze Medal Match. The Wild did not disappoint as they played wonderful soccer, defeating the Edmonton side by a convincing 4-0 win. It was a solid win, evidence of the team's strong character and commitment, and allowed the girls to end the week on a positive. The only downside to the match was the injury to sparkplug midfielder Michelle Pulice (Burnaby), who was carried off the park late in the first half with a broken leg.

Head coach Danny Pietramala certainly shared the girls disappointment with not making the final and winning gold, but said his team should hold their head high and be proud of what they accomplished, "We played seven very good halves of soccer, and only one bad half. That's a pretty good performance over four matches. Most players don't get a chance to go to Club Nationals, let alone get a medal. Some of these kids have two medals. They played with skill and heart, and represented their Province, Club and themselves in the highest manner, on and off the park. We wanted to win gold, but it wasn't meant to be this time. We'll be back. And we'll try again."

The Wild's trademark offence was on display all week, as they racked up a whopping 22 goals over four games. Striker Sydney Leroux (Surrey) led the tournament in scoring with 10 goals, but it was the play of Port Coquitlam's Paige Adams which was the catalyst for the offensive output. Adams was right behind Leroux with eight goals herself, but her strong attacking play and passing was instrumental in setting up several other goals throughout the four games. Michelle Pulice, with a pair, Jenny Lyster (Port Coquitlam) and Samantha Beckett (Coquitlam) rounded out the scoring for the Wild. While she didn't get in on the scoring, defender Stephanie Pagliaro (Burnaby) had a very strong tournament. Melissa Mobilio (Coquitlam) and Jessica Fleming (Coquitlam) also played well for Coquitlam.

Goalkeeper Loren Lidin (Port Moody) played all four games, picking up three clean sheets along the way, and finishing with the second best goals against average of the tournament.

The 2005 Under-16 Canadian Club Championship Bronze Medalists - COQUITLAM CITY WILD - Paige Adams, Samantha Beckett, Julie David, Mila Dobrozdravich, Jessica Fleming, Lauren Lachlan, Sydney Leroux, Loren Lidin, Jenny Lyster, Julie McDowell, Melissa Mobilio, Alex Muzzin. Stephanie Pagliaro, Annelies Post, Michelle Pulice, Laura Shaw, Erin Snelling, Terry Dobrozdravich (Manager), Tom Lachlan (Assistant Coach), Scott Fletcher (Assistant Coach), and Danny Pietramala (Head Coach).

With the 2005 Club Nationals now behind them, the Wild get back to work this week with a pair of Girls Metro Soccer League games: Thursday, October 13 @ Blue Mountain (7pm) against Burnaby, and Sunday, October 16 away to North Shore United.

COQUITLAM CITY WILD WIN U16 SOCCER PROVINCIAL GOLD (2005)
Local Girls With Third Provincial Cup In Three Years!

Monday, July 4, 2005 (Burnaby, BC) - It wasn't easy, but the Coquitlam City Wild won the U16 Provincial Cup on Sunday afternoon with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Burnaby Girls Dynamite. The victory clinched the Wild's third consecutive Provincial title, and means that they will represent BC at the U16 National Championships this October. Over the course of the weekend, the Wild won twice and drew once in the round-robin portion, before going up against Burnaby yet again in the final. In earlier games, the Wild defeated Kelowna United 3-0, North Shore United 5-0, and finally, with the final-spot already in hand, tied Burnaby 1-1.

There could not have been a better day for soccer than Sunday, and the several hundred spectators who took in Sunday's final at Burnaby Lake could not have asked for a better match. The Wild controlled much of the play with their possession-style game, but couldn't break down the relentless defending of the Burnaby team. Only Michelle Pulice's first half marker off a scramble in front of the Burnaby goal would make up the scoreline on this day. The Wild were unable to generate much in terms of quality scoring chances, but the defended superbly and Burnaby were unable to threaten much themselves.

The final whistle signalled the end of a long and emotional season for the Wild, whose goal from day one was to win BC's and earn the right to return to Nationals and the opportunity to repeat on that stage as well. While the Wild completed the season without a single loss in League or Cup play, and won the League, Coastal and now Provincial Championships, the sudden and tragic loss of their mentor and friend, Domenic Mobilio in November, gave the entire team - players, coaches, parents - some renewed focus.

Head coach Danny Pietramala - who was recruited by his cousin Domenic Mobilio to coach this team prior to last season - was ecstatic with the win, and particularly proud of his team for playing with so much heart and character. "Nothing is ever easy for this team," said Pietramala who has seen his team lose just twice in two years at the helm, "But today we played extremely well, and while we didn't win 'convincingly' I felt we were in control the entire match. We have had to work very hard for this, none of the other teams were going to roll over, and full credit to all those teams we have played along the way. The girls deserved this. They earned it. They won this for themselves, for each other, and for Dom."

The 2005 League, Coastal and Provincial Cup Champions - Coquitlam City Wild:
Paige Adams, Samanth Beckett, Julie David, Mila Dobrozdravich, Jessica Fleming, Lauren Lachlan, Sydney Leroux, Loren Lidin, Jenny Lyster, Julie McDowell, Melissa Mobilio, Alex Muzzin, Stephanie Pagliaro, Annelies Post, Michelle Pulice, Laura Shaw, Erin Snelling, Shelby Taylor, Danny Pietramala (Head Coach), Tom Lachlan (Assistant), Scott Fletcher (Assistant), Terry Dobrozdravich (Manager).

GREAT WEEKEND FOR CCS GIRLS AND WOMEN!
Coquitlam City Soccer enjoyed a fabulous two days of soccer this past weekend, with a Coastal Cup Championship for one team, and two others qualifying for the Provincial Cup finals.
On Saturday, the Coquitlam City U16 Wild earned their second Coastal Cup in three years by defeating the Burnaby Girls Dynamite by a score of 3-1. Sydney Leroux scored a pair of second-half markers to be the difference, while Michele Pulice opened the scoring. It was a great showing for the girls, who now move on to the Provincial tournament in July - as they look to make it three BC titles in a row.
Then on Sunday, the U17 Renegades clobbered Semiahmoo 3-1 to earn the third and final spot in July's Provincial tournament. Audree Dionne had a pair for the Renegades, while Kayla Bordignon had a single. The Renegades were full value for the win, and the whole team has worked long and hard to make it this far.
Finally, Sunday wrapped up with more good news, as the Coquitlam City FC Premier Women soundly defeated Victoria Gorge United by a resounding 5-nil score, all in the unfriendly confines of Royal Athletic Park. With the win, Coquitlam City has earned a spot in this weekend's final Championship Game. Coquitlam City will take on their long-time rivals, Surrey United, on Sunday, May 1, 12 noon at Mercer Stadium in New Westminster.

Coquitlam City Wild Dominate Girls Provincial Soccer Championships......

Monday, July 5, 2004 - The Coquitlam City Wild won their second consecutive girls Provincial Cup title, running the table in the under-15 division this past weekend in Kelowna. Sunday's final saw the Wild take on the Kamloops Panthers, who earned their spot in the final by virtue of a penalty-kick contest to break a tie with the North Shore Blaze.

In the first game of the round-robin portion, the Wild had some difficulty with the physical Kamloops side, but still managed a solid 3-1 win. The final was not nearly as close, as the Coquitlam girls romped to a 5-0 halftime lead on their way to a thoroughly convincing 7-0 final win. Striker Sidney Leroux opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with her first of two on the day. Her front-line partner Paige Adams scored four times - including a couple of absolute crackers - while midfielder Melissa Mobilio scored a single to round out the scoring late in the game. Loren Lidin stopped all Kamloops shots for her second shutout of the tournament. Lauren Lachlan and Jessica Fleming capped outstanding tournaments by dominating the middle of the park for the entire final match.

The Wild's road to the final was as equally impressive as their final game rout. After opening the tournament with the 3-1 win over Kamloops, they got another shot at arch-rivals Burnaby Girls - the team that beat the Wild in penalties in the Coastal Cup final. Penalties were not needed this time around, as the Wild took the opportunity to make an emphatic statement and get some revenge, soundly thrashing the Burnaby side 7-1, with Adams leading the way with an amazing five goals. Leroux scored the other two goals. With two wins under their belt, and a spot in the final clinched, the Wild didn't play with the same hunger in the final round-robin match, but still managed to beat last year's finalist the North Shore Blaze by a 2-0 margin.

Strikers Paige Adams and Sidney Leroux led the team with a whopping nine goals each. Lauren Lachlan, Jessica Fleming, Melissa Mobilio, Laura Shaw, Jenny Lyster and keeper Loren Lidin all had outstanding weekends, but every player deserves credit for battling the best opposition in BC, as well as the stifling heat of Kelowna for four games in four days. The Wild finish the 2003-04 season as Provincial Champions, Metro League Champions and Coastal Cup Silver Medalists. The two-time defending Provincial Cup winners will be back at it again in a couple of months time to defend their titles as they begin the long road to the under-16 nationals in fall 2005.

The Coquitlam City Wild:
Keeper: Loren Lidin
Defenders: Laura Shaw, Jessica Fleming, Alex Muzzin, Jessica Mazzarolo, Mila Dobrozdravich, Chantelle Robertson

UNDER 21 CUP FINAL

METRO-FORD JR. WOLVES  -  ICST PEGASUS  6-1:  On Sunday, at Vancouver Technical School, the Coquitlam-based team won its second title of the season by defeating Pegasus by an elaborate 6-1 margin in the Under 21 Cup final. After getting off to a tentative start, Metro-Ford took the lead at the 15th minute mark when Jovan Blagojevic’s corner kick was converted into the opening goal by Mladen Lumovic. The goal seemed to provide the calming effect that the Jr. Wolves needed as they controlled the game from that moment onward. In fact, about 5 minutes later, another corner kick by Blagojevic found a wide-open Marcin Kostecki whose wicked shot was redirected into the net by Alex Hoffer. Soon thereafter, on yet another set-up by Jovan Blagojevic, Matthias Kempe picked up a rebound and calmly deposited the ball into the back of the net for Metro-Ford’s third goal. Early in the second half, Jovan Blagojevic took over the role of finisher as he converted a fine through ball by defender Brendan Besuschko into the Wolves’ fourth goal. To their credit, the Pegasus lads never quit trying and finally got a well-deserved consolation goal shortly thereafter when a long punt by goalkeeper Gursheer Khajla found Sam Gill near the top of the penalty area. Unselfishly, Gill spotted a wide-open Dylan Myers and laid a perfectly-placed pass onto his path. Myers had no difficulty in converting Gill’s pass into Pegasus’ lone goal of the match. It should be mentioned that Metro-Ford’s goalkeeper, Dillan Fogliato, was injured on the play and had to be stretchered off the field and taken to hospital with abdominal injuries. The Jr. Wolves bounced back from the adversity and added their 5th goal at the 70th minute mark when Mladen Ljumovic and Sasa Vukovic set up Vito Iacobellis at the top of the 18-yard box. Iacobellis then proceeded to slot the ball home to put the match out of Pegasus’ reach. Very late in the match, Jovan Blagojevic rounded out a brilliant individual performance by scoring his second goal of the match when he picked up a rebound—off a shot by Mladen Ljumovic—and calmly placed the ball into the Pegasus net. Defensively, Brendan Besuschko and Roberto Ramogida were outstanding, while midfielders Vito Iacobellis, Alex Hoffer, and Mladen Ljumovic worked tirelessly throughout the match.

Coquitlam Converse Wins North District D Cup
The Coquitlam Converse  U16 silver B girls, Sunday beat Golden Ears United 3-2 to take home the North District D cup  2 years in a row.
We started off slow being down 1 goal, the girls continued to pick up the pace, Golden Ears then went ahead 2-0 at the first half. The girls came out strong in the second half , Timma Hickenbotham put the Converse on the board with a rebound from Sienna Lund’s cross that actually hit the goalie and bounced out ,and waiting on the goal line was Timma who banged it in .We continued to take control of the game but just couldn’t put it in  the net. Sam Girard played well in net in the first half , and Sam Jones in the second half , both goalies made some stellar saves to make the game very exciting.
Our defence led by sweeper Jennifer Derkson kept the Golden Ears at a distance from our goal. She had strong support from fellow defenders, Shazi Khankashi , Alanna Hagemoen , Rebecca Reid, and Christina Sabarre. The midfield play of Sienna Lund, Sarah Tremblay , Sydney Jang, Daelyn Prentice , Amrita Gill, Breanna Foran and Cassidy Pederson continued to feed the ball towards the net for forwards Leah Dow, Sam Flello, Timma Hickenbotham.
The girls continued to put on  the pressure and with less than 5 min to go in the game Sam Flello scored on a breakaway to tie the game and put the coaches into a frenzy of line changes, both sides of the field spectators went crazy, with us yelling at the girls to get to the ball off the kick and with only seconds remaining , we gained control of the ball and again Miss Flello  scored putting the Final touches on yet another North District championship.
This was probably one of the most exciting come backs of the girls soccer career  they have ever played.
Well Done ladies, on behalf of Dave Jones (Head coach) Howie Cassivi  (Assistant Coach )  and myself  Jeff Lund  ( Momager )
CONGRATULATIONS  ON AN AWESOME  GAME !!!!!!! YOU ALL SHOWED THAT SOCCER REALLY IS A TEAM SPORT.

In an exciting Cup final the U11 Girls Vipers earned a dramatic victory in penalty shots to win the Girls U11 Select North District Championship. Port Moody opened the scoring in the first half with a beautiful 30 yard direct kick that found the top corner. Coquitlam’s Claire Ye countered in the second half with direct free kick goal as well. In the first 10 minute OT session Port Moody scored to pull ahead. Coquitlam pressed frantically and with 2 minutes remaining scored on a penalty shot to send the game into the Penalty Kick round. CMFSC Milano wins Boy’s U-18 Gold division at Wesburn’s 27th Annual Labor Day Tournament!

click for larger imageCMFSC Milano started the 2009-10 season on a strong note by going undefeated at Wesburn’s 27th  Annual Labor Day Tournament. Milano took home the trophyin the U-18 Gold division with an impressive record of 3 wins and a tie from 4 games!

In the opening game of the Tourney, Milano played against a determined Richmond team.A strong defensive performance from both teams limited scoring to 1 goal for each side.In the second game, on that afternoon, Milan took on a very physical North Delta teamand  won 1-0 showing that skill and determination will overcome intimidation.

In the third game, Milano put on a more complete performance and dominated the gameagainst Dunbar winning by a 3-1 score. Although, this tournament is a round robin with thetrophy being awarded on points, Monday’s game took on the feel of a final as Milan neededto win against Squamish to capture the trophy.  The player’s put on their strongest performanceof the Tourney defeating Squamish 3-0.

Striker Michael Esposito produced an amazing 6 goals out of  8 scored for Milano during theTourney. Team defense was top notch as Milan averaged less then a goal against per game. The performance of netminder Connor Kachor has to be noted as he came up with timely savesthroughout the Tourney. As many soccer coaches like to say, the midfield is the engine that makea soccer team go. Timely running, tackling, selfless passing by Milan’s midfielders kept theattack going and prevented opposing teams from controlling the ball and putting pressure in ourdefensive end.

Well deserved Win!

The team went undefeated in four games and were excellent representatives of our club.

The CMFSC U12 Girls Lions won their division at the Burnaby Remembrance Day 7 aside Tournament and took home Gold Medals.
Scoring an impressive 15 goals whilst allowing only 2 secured the title.  Our goalkeeper Charlotte Wishart tallied 3 shutouts out of four games and provided solid goalkeeping.
Every member of the team played exceptionally well with crisp passing and top notch positioning which led to the Lions dominating their opponents.
Team members include Abby Forsyth, Alexis Vozza, Alison Lundgren, Aly Bond, Charlotte Wishart, Julia Ewonus, Justine Smith, Kirstynn Decicco, Lauren Best, Sabrina Morales, and Vanessa Ceolin.
These girls should be very proud of themselves as their play in the tournament was outstanding.  They played like a team and almost every goal was a team effort with lots of passing and communication amongst the girls.
Well done Lions!!!

Boy’s U-18 Gold CMF Milan finishes year with 2nd Tournament win!
Over the weekend of March 28-30th, CMF Milan participated for the 5th year in a row to the annual South Burnaby Metro Club Spring Soccer Tournament at the Burnaby Lake West Complex winning it’s 3rd SBMC title!
Milan faced District Champion Cliff Avenue on Friday night. In this very physical and tightly played match, a late goal by Ryan Lane on a fine individual play gave Milan the 1-0 win. Alexis Lyaskalo put on a great performance in net and had to make several point blank saves throughout the match.
On Saturday, Milan drew 3-3 versus the SBMC Strikers after a Burnaby penalty kick with no time left on the clock. It was an entertaining game with much back and forth action after both teams had a player sent off early in the first half. Milan‘s 3 goals were scored by Ryan Lane, Brad Bruneski and Michael Esposito on a blistering header from a perfect Bruneski cross.
The third and last match on Sunday would decide the Tourney Champion. Milan played a very good first half vs the SBMC Celtic coming out with a 2-0 lead on goals by Brad Bruneski and Bernard Kesic. In the second half, Milan showed that it deserved the title by peppering the Celtic keeper from all side adding 4 more goals to win the game in resounding fashion 6-0. Brad Bruneski was the offensive star of the game adding two goals to his tally while Ryan Lane and Michael Esposito added singles.
We must underline that this Tournament win is special for CMF Milan. Apart from being the last Tourney in youth soccer for most of the U-18 players on the team, this win turned out to be a real Coquitlam Metro Ford Club effort! Milan only brought 9 regular season players to the Tourney(Chris Esposito, Kevin Banman, Lucas Cherubini, Davide Di Pomponio, Ryan Lane, Brad Bruneski, Bernard Kesic, Paul Min and Alexis Lyaskalo)! The remaining 9 players on the roster were picked up from no less then 4 other CMF teams! Milan called up 3 U-18 bronze players(Esteban Cuevas, Mathew Floden and Alex Zhikharev), 2 U-17 Silver players(Mike Esteves and Ivan Plotnikov), 3 U-16 Silver players(Michael Esposito, Ricardo Correia and Matthew Di Pomponio) and one U-13 player(Karlo Kresevlak) to field a team of 14-15 player each game. Each player had an important part to play and most played out of their usual position for a large part of the Tournament.
All in all a well deserved Gold medal for Milan and a great tournament win for CMF!
